Upcycling nutrients from waste by-products into green products with aquatic plant

To produce 1 kg of meat protein, about 3-6 kg of plant protein is needed. In Sweden, we import soya mainly from South American countries for cattle feed. One alternative solution could be a new aquatic protein crop (Lemna sp.), which can produce 6-10 times more protein/ha than soybean. Thus, the project seeks to optimize cultivation techniques, protein extraction methods to generate high-value protein products suitable for animal feed, while simultaneously producing nutrient-rich biofertilizer.
