In the service of the country

The manuscript, In the service of the country, deals with two topics that are currently debated in high tones and sometimes with more emotion than knowledge; the school and its problems and who the citizen is and perhaps above all should be. It is my hope that the manuscript will both show why the school, and the problems it faces today, looks the way it does, and that the debate about the citizen, who he or she is and should be, will be nuanced and placed in a historical context. In this way, the project can provide perspective and a basis for constructive debate.
