The café is named after Lars Nyström’s son August, who is 18 years old and has Down’s syndrome. Lars started the cafe in 2018 after he heard of a similar café in the US. Today, August no-stress café has 18 employees, all of whom are challenged with either Downs syndrome, Asperger syndrome, CP, etc. The object is not to make money but to help a vulnerable group go out to work and thus feel needed and acquire an identity and self-esteem.
